Nail surgery is performed to permanently resolve nail deformity or repetitive infection from ingrowing toe nails.

There are two types of nail surgery:
Total Nail Avulsion where the entire nail is permanently removed, normally performed on deformed nails (onychogryphosis) or severely involuted nails.
Partial Nail Avulsion where just the offending side or sides are removed, normally performed on ingrowing nails (onychocryptosis) or mildly involuted nails. This technique can provide excellent cosmetic results.
